BeFamous Privacy Policy
BeFamous is a fictional social media career game. This page explains what data the app handles and where it goes.
Account data
The app creates an account for you automatically the first time you open it, using a random identifier and password generated on your device and kept in the iOS Keychain. You can instead sign in with an email address and password if you already have an account. This data is handled by Neon Auth, our authentication provider, and is used only to identify your account.
Gameplay data
We store your career progress (stats, relationships, energy, story position) and the turns you play, including the posts and direct messages you write in the game. This data is stored in a Neon Postgres database, and the API that serves it runs on Vercel.
AI providers
These are the third parties that can receive data from the app, and what each one receives:
- OpenAI: the text of your posts and direct messages, for safety moderation.
- DeepSeek, through OrcaRouter: the text of your posts and direct messages, and the name, handle and niche of your character, to write the characters' replies.
When you write a post or a direct message, the text is sent for moderation to OpenAI, and to DeepSeek through OrcaRouter to generate the reply that appears in the game. Do not write personal information you do not want processed by these providers.
We use these AI providers only after you give explicit permission in the app, before your first post or message is sent. You can withdraw that permission at any time in Account; after that, your text is no longer sent to them and the app keeps working without AI replies.
Purchases
Subscriptions are sold through Apple. RevenueCat processes purchase and entitlement status using your account identifier. We do not receive or store your payment details. If you are 18 or older and meet the Meta conditions described under Attribution and advertising, RevenueCat also forwards your purchase events to Meta.
Attribution and advertising
Apple Ads: the app enables Apple AdServices attribution. RevenueCat sends the AdServices token to Apple to learn whether the install came from an Apple Ads campaign. This does not require the App Tracking Transparency prompt, does not track you across other companies' apps, and applies to all players.
Meta (Facebook): the Meta SDK is loaded only for players who told us they are 18 or older. It reports to Meta that the app was installed or opened, so we can measure our ad campaigns. After onboarding, the app asks once for your iOS App Tracking Transparency permission.
- If you allow tracking: the SDK can use your advertising identifier (IDFA), and RevenueCat sends your subscription events (trial, purchase, renewal) to Meta together with the Meta anonymous ID and your device identifiers.
- If you deny tracking: the SDK does not collect your advertising identifier, but the app still gives RevenueCat the Meta anonymous ID, and the install or open report to Meta still happens without the advertising identifier.
Players under 18 never load the Meta SDK, never see the tracking prompt, and nothing is sent to Meta. You can withdraw permission at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.
Ads (Google AdMob)
Purpose: free players see ads, served and measured by Google AdMob. Players with a paid plan see no ads.
Data: if you allow tracking in Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt, AdMob can use your advertising identifier (IDFA); if you do not, it does not use it. AdMob also receives device, usage and diagnostic data such as an IP-derived coarse location, device model, operating system version and your interactions with ads.
Personalization: ads are personalized only for players who are 18 or older and allowed tracking. Players aged 13 to 17 always get non-personalized ads, tagged as under the age of consent, and never see the in-app tracking prompt.
How to withdraw: turn tracking off in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking, or buy a plan to stop seeing ads. Google's policy: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
Analytics
The app sends product analytics to PostHog. The events are:
- onboarding_completed
- decision_made
- daily_chosen
- crisis_chosen
- season_started
- ending_reached
- wanted_to_write_shown
- wanted_to_write_plans
- paywall_viewed
- trial_started
- purchase_completed
- share_cta_shown
- share_cta_tapped
- share_started
- share_completed
- app_opened
- ad_shown
- ad_reward_granted
- ad_failed
Events include an anonymous install identifier and, after you sign in, your account identifier. PostHog does not receive the text of your posts or direct messages. Every event also carries the app version and build, your language, your age band, whether you have a paid plan, and whether the build is a test build.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account inside the app. Deletion removes your careers, turns, messages and memory summaries from our database, deletes your customer record in RevenueCat, and deletes your authentication account (email and name). Anonymous cost records that cannot be linked to you may remain.
Safety
How the app handles self-harm, protects younger players and handles reports is described on our Safety and Suicide Prevention page.
